Winter sports; In the mountains; Among nature
The whole region offers lots of holiday possibilities: cycling, hiking and winter sports plus, for the past few years, adrenaline sports and mountain climbing. You can easily combine these with trips to the small towns in the valleys or to the spa resorts. This region is also home to picturesque castles and villas, various zoos and a rich array of natural water reservoirs and aqua parks that are open during the summer. Finally, there are curious technical and industrial monuments that recall the former tradition of ore mining. Also, be sure to try the original wine from Most. It has been cultivated there since the 11th century and is a curiosity in the wine producing world as the vineyards are laid out above the dross from the coal mines! Take a short trip to Oberwiesenthal in Germany, a town with a large sports complex and an aqua park. Other highly recommended day trips in the Czech Republic are: the wellness resorts of Karlovy Vary (Karlsbad) and Jáchymov (or Joachimsthal, as it is best known in English). Other attractions include: the aqua park in Klásterec nad Ohří (in German: Klösterle an der Eger) and Kamenec Lake near Chomutov with water-skiing, mini-golf and a zoo. In the neighbouring village of Měděnec you will find a forest lake and flooded quarry and a couple of kilometers to the east, the enormous ruins of Hasistejn Castle (German: Hassenstein, "stone of hatred"), where numerous concerts and events are held.
