Frielendorf (230 to 260 m NN), a State-recognized climatic spa, is nestled among a rolling landscape of picturesque half-timbered villages, footpaths and cycling routes. Homberg (10 km), the capital of the region, is situated at the gateway to the Knüllgebergte mountains and is a popular recreation and vacation area with numerous tourist sites. With its 20 boroughs, Homberg looks back on a historic past, full of experiences. The city is characterized by its Marie Church, which is one of the largest Gothic hall churches in Hesse. Besides the numerous activities possible in the holiday park and surrounding area it is also definitely worthwhile to take a trip to Fritzlar (35 km), the site of an ancient settlement. This place, which is situated on the steep banks of the Eder, is surrounded by ancient walls and defensive towers. Crowned at the front with double towers, the city is a jewel among the medieval cities of Hessen. Furthermore, in the woods around Frielendorf you will find several mountain bike routes (total of 17 km). When there is sufficient snow, you can enjoy unlimited skiing at the nearby resorts of Knüllköpfchen, Vogelsberg or Neue Stein which has two lifts and two slopes. You will also find the Wildlife Knüll at a distance of 10 km. In short, this is a very diverse area!
