In the countryside; Near water
Lake Tisza (or Kisköre Reservior) is the largest artificial lake in Hungary. It was constructed in 1973 to control flooding on the Tisza River. The area contains flood plain forests, dead channels and islands as well as numerous natural treasures. The lake is 125km² in total and approx. 80km long with a variety of smaller and larger islands. For those who are looking for an active holiday, you will find everything you desire here. In Europe Lake Tisza is a unique aquatic environment (it is the only one of its kind!) where the use of jet-skis and motorboats is permitted! You can bring your own or you can rent a boat on the spot for a reasonable price. Take an excursion on the lake or ride your bicycle along the new cycle path around the lake. There are many possibilities for fishing - from the beach or from a boat - or why not try your luck on the lake which is famous for it’s legendary [fish] abundance. You can also choose from dozens of excursion possibilities: on foot, by motorbike or bicycle, even on horseback. Nearby the accommodation you will find: a beach (700m); fishing possibilities (500m); bird and nature reservation (500m); restaurant (450m), and boat trips (500m). Only 9km from the castle there is a thermal spa.
In the township you can visit the beach, rent water bicycles, kayak/canoe or fish (not surprising as Lake Tisza is known as the ’Paradise of Fishing’). Here you can also visit a nature reservation via a wooden walkway situated 30cm above the surface of the water, where you can see small islands and birds colonies. If you are interested in the traditions of the old village way of life, then a visit to the House of Regional Traditions in Poroszló is a must!
