Gyenesdiás is a lovely holiday resort village 100km from the western border of Hungary and 15 km from Balaton Airport (in Sármellék). If you enjoy swimming and water sports, or just prefer to lie on the beach and sunbathe, you won’t need to travel very far. The closest beach is just a few minutes away by foot. The beaches in Gyenesdiás are very nice and well-maintained. If you are interested in Hungarian culture don’t miss Festetics Castle in Keszthely. This is the 4th largest castle in Hungary. Today it is home to a museum. The adjacent monument has a nice protected and well-looked after garden. Lake Hévíz is located near the western end of Lake Balaton, five km from Keszthely. It is the largest thermal lake in the world (47,500 square meters in area). The flow of water is very strong and the lake is believed to be completely replenished each day. The waters are reputed to have curative effects, and there is a thriving health tourism industry in the area only a few km from this accommodation. Gyenesdiás is the perfect destination in western Balaton with plenty to see and do both in summer and winter. For example, in winter you can skate and windsurf on the frozen beaches of Lake Balaton.
