The seaside resort of Tirrenia is situated approximately 12 km north of the city of Livorno. This elongated site is very green and contains tall pine trees. Tirrenia is located on the Versilia coast and has a 10 km long sandy beach which is protected by pine trees. It abuts against the Alps, which form a panoramic backdrop to the area. This coast is a delight for sunbathers, with its rocky coves and picturesque beaches. Due to the fantastic countryside trails, hiking and horseback riding are very popular here. La Versilia is famous mainly for its cosmopolitan cities like Forte dei Marmi and Viareggio, as well as for the Nature Park of the Apuan Alps, and its marble mining. The latter has significantly changed the appearance of the mountain landscape over the years. The mountains surrounding the city of Carrara have 300 marble quarries alone. This marble was used for years by Michelangelo, even in his famous 'David' masterpiece. Versilia also stands for sea, sun and tan bodies. The numerous and well-organized bathing establishments stretch 20 km along the beaches where you will also find many night clubs and discotheques. The Versilia region offers numerous cultural events including the Puccini Festival, Musica Lyrica and the theaters of Camaione, Pietrasanta and Viareggio. Other resorts along this coast also have interesting sites and are certainly worth a visit.
