Frielendorf (230 to 260 m NN) is situated in a rolling landscape containing picturesque half-timbered villages, footpaths and cycling routes. It is a State-recognized health resort. The capital of the region is Homberg (10 km.) Located at the gateway to the Knüllgebergte, a recreational / vacation area in the mountain resort of Kurhessisch. With its 20 boroughs, Homberg looks back on a historic past, full of events. The city is dominated by the Church of St Mary, which is one of the largest Gothic hall churches in Hessen. Besides the numerous activities offered by the park and surrounding area, it is definitely worthwhile to make a visit to the ancient settlement of Fritzlar (35 km). This town, surrounded by walls and defensive towers, is situated on the steep banks of the Eder. Crowned at the front with double towers, this ancient town is a jewel among the medieval cities of Hessen. In the woods around Frielendorf you will find several mountain bike routes (a total of 17 km). When there is sufficient snow, you can ski (unlimited) in the nearby ski resorts of Knüllköpfchen or Vogelsberg, or in Neuenstein with its two lifts / slopes. You will also find the Wildlife Knüll at a distance of 10 km. In short, a very diverse area!
