The village of Thalfang is located in the western wooded Hunsrück. This plateau, with its farmland and valleys, is a true nature's paradise which has remained virtually unchanged since time immemorial. For beautiful and cultural diversity you can visit sites in the vicinity of the Hunsrück, Eifel, Mosel, Saar, Nahe and the Rhine. Not far from Thalfang you will find a number of ancient strongholds, for example the ruins of Castle Dhronecken (3 km) in the valley of the small Dhron. If you visit the twin town of Bernkastel-Kues on the Mosel (about 20 km) you definitely have to visit the ruins of Landshut Castle. In the vicinity of the park there are several hiking and wine routes. 35 km away lies the city of Trier which was once the capital of the Roman Empire and therefore is said to be the 2nd Rome. The following cities are also worth a visit: Traben-Trarbach (38 km) is situated in a bend of the Mosel and has several relics from Celtic and Roman times. In the vicinity of Fischbach (35) on the German Edel Steinstrasse, a few kilometers from Idar-Oberstein, there is a copper mine which was one of the largest known copper mines in Germany at the time of Napoleon. The Peterberg recreation center (Nonnweiler-Braunhausen, 25 km) with its 1-km-long summer toboggan run invites you for a bit of adventure. With this modern system you just go to the top of the 584-meter-high Peterberg and begin (don't forget to brake!). The course includes turns, swings and jumps and offers great fun for both children and adults. There is also an exciting show with 30 actors and more than 20 horses. Realistic fights and spectacular special effects make the show a truly impressive event. Wireless microphones and a 1000 watt sound system ensure excellent acoustics for the up to 1000 visitors. Breathtaking nature games, exciting shows and adventure await guests at the more than 750,000 m² Eifelpark. Enjoy the large assortment of wildlife including brown bears, ibex and many other wild animals. The potential of this area is too great to mention.
