Romantic; Among nature; Near water A deserted landscape, with a clear blue lake in the middle, surrounded by pine forests. It's a wonderful place for walkers and nature lovers. This barren and sandy landscape is the by-product of a former zinc factory. The lake appeared thanks to the sand mining. In order to prevent further expansion, forests were planted around the area. The Sahara is located next to the Kempens Canal, with a graceful bridge that provides access to the area, where you'll find a variety of walking and cycling routes. Are you looking for a well-organized sporting activity for a day of fun? Then go to Air Adventure in Bergeijk, (7 km from De Vossemeren) just over the border, in the Netherlands. Here you'll find a covered arcade with several inflatable toys, slides and obstacle courses. 22km away lies the Loro Parque in Veldhoven, a sanctuary for exotic birds that is open to the public. You can see many different kinds of birds and even feed them and learn interesting things about the animals. In the park they get proper care. You can feed the animals, but please take into account what they can and cannot eat. You can also enjoy pony rides with the kids. During a trip in the fresh air through the woods they will feel like a true cowboy. It does not matter whether they have experience or not, there are many different possibilities. There are four places where you can hire ponies. Parents can take a walk, but they can also go horse riding. 10 km away you will find four mills on the picturesque Dommel, two windmills and a mill museum. Overpelt is a real mill municipality. One of the mills is the oldest in Belgium and dates from the eighth century. There are 2 theme parks in the area: Bobbejaanland is 30 km away and Plopsaland is 36 km away from Vossemeren.
