Balatonboglár lies on the southern shore of Lake Balaton, at the M7, between the small towns of Fonyód and Balatonlelle. It has been a seaside resort since the end of the 19th century. The beach is the largest beach on Lake Balaton and here each summer you will find organized festivals such as the big event in July where more than 1,000 adventurous people swim from Balatonboglár to the other side of the lake. The water is suitable for very small children! Balatonboglár has a new port these days, which is the largest on Lake Balaton.
In a neighboring village, on a hillside, there is a spherical observation tower from where you have a unique view of Lake Balaton. Balatonboglár has about 3,500 hectares of vineyards thus it is not surprising to find several wine cellars and wine producers here. One of these is the largest wine producer of the southern Balaton region. Each year in August the famous wine week of Balatonboglár takes place. All week long you have the opportunity to sample the best wines of this region along with a variety of homemade delicacies. In the neighboring Szölöskislak Castle you can visit a beautiful wine museum. Balatonboglár also has a vibrant downtown, situated along a promenade, between the port and the railway station. Here you will find parking lots, parks, restaurants, nice pubs, numerous shops and boutiques.
