Among nature; On an island; Near water
At the end of the boot of Italy you will find the beautiful island of Sicily. The capital of the island is Palermo. Sicily has always played an important economic and cultural role in Europe because of its strategic location in the Mediterranean Sea.
Sicily has great monuments which have been left behind by the various peoples who have tried to conquer the island down through the centuries. Sicily is the largest island in the Mediterranean Sea and has a mild climate.
The island has a largely untouched nature. In Sicily you will find the most beautiful beaches of the Mediterranean as well as many small islands situated near the coast. The accommodation is located about 1 kilometer from the Ionian Sea and thanks to its strategic location on the east coast of Sicily, you can easily reach the bustling city of Catania (8 km), Fontanarossa Airport(15 km) or the beautiful Taormina (35 km).
Along the Ionian Coast you can see a number of beautiful villages such as Aci Castello. This village has a medieval castle which was built entirely of lava rock. Another landmark is the rock pillars in Aci Trezza, “including the islands of the Cyclops”. It was believed that these rocks were thrown out of a cave by Polyphemus (to Odysseus).
You can also take a nice trip to the beautiful town of Acireale which is situated on a lava terrace high above the Ionian Sea. Although several earthquakes have devastated the city, Acireale has retained its glory from the baroque period. You can enjoy magnificent views from the Castle of Scam Macca or stroll through the gardens of Belvedere Villa.
On a list of places you must see in Sicily, don't forget a visit to the breathtaking Etna Park with its high mountains, beautiful valleys and small picturesque villages.
Etna Park is situated about 12km from the accommodation and can be easily reached by car or on foot. The nearest beach to the accommodation is only 900 meters away. This beach consists of black volcanic sand with pebbles. Fine sandy beaches can be found in Giardini di Naxos (27km) and Catania (Playa, 30km).
